Toddler puppies
It’s been a whirlwind two weeks, and so many things have happened. Most exciting was that the puppies’ eyes and ears opened, giving them a whole new world to explore! We have gone from seal-crawl to an organized, but shaky, walk, their squeaks have turned to defined barks, whines, and growls, and they are starting to play! Our little “dumplings” are turning into puppies, and, oh my, are they CUTE!!!
Of course, puppies make lots of poopies, (Mom says the words MUST have the same Middle English origin because there is no extracting one from the other), so now that they have some capacity to locomotor themselves to the puppy litter, and ability to go without stimulation, we are beginning to work on litter training the pups. Mom laughs and says she feels like she has a toddler every time that she exclaims a pup has used their litter!
Poopy puppies need lots of baths, so that is part of our daily routine, along with LOTS and LOTS of laundry! We have a bath time assembly line with three little puppy tubs for “grunge scrub,” “sanitary rinse,” and “conditioning rinse” with a drop of coconut oil to avoid drying out their skin and coats. That makes the puppies smell like puppy and coconuts, which is a wonderful combination! The pups are learning to love their baths, and relax in the warm water, but squeal when it is starting to get a little too chilly. A quick dry out under their puppy “French fry light,” and they are fluffy and sweet smelling again.
Mom is not the only one having fun with the puppies. The Twins are also having lots of snuggle time. The pups are learning how to be lap dogs during family movie night, and one pup even became a “Hoodie Puppy” in a photo that went viral amongst their friends! Now everyone wants one of their very own.
