Puppies on My Lap
It’s not the typical Valentine’s Day. Life has been busier than usual with our first litter of Frenchie puppies. There’s feeding, feeding, feeding, and, of course, LOTS of laundry. Each puppy gets individual socialization time every day, as well as the group as a whole. On top of that Bleuet still nurses 3-4 times per day, but at least they are sleeping through the night now. Momma Dog is pooped, we are pooped, and the puppies have pooped (again).
Actually, as I sit here typing this blog, I have little Noëlle asleep with her chin on my keyboard. Aurora is sleeping on The Girl and Borealis is in The Boy’s lap while they do their homework. Gale and Alpine are snuggled up together on their bed in the puppy pen. Everyone has eaten, pooped (again), and is ready for a nap. I would say this ranks right up there with the best Valentine’s ever. I mean, who wouldn’t want to spend the evening with a cuddly Frenchie puppy? And we have more pups than laps to hold them. Happy days.
Each day, the pups get increasingly adventurous and their personalities become more distinct. Borealis is a hard core cuddler who also gets a fit of the zoomies every now and then, Alpine is the adventurer, and we have to keep an eye on him, or he’s off to another room. Aurora is affectionate and assertive (The Girl is campaigning to keep her as her “therapy dog”), Gale is spicy, sweet, and loves her tummy rubs. Then there is Noëlle, who loves to play, but will just as happily snuggle up with you (this one is The Boy’s pick as favorite). They all give kisses, play, and entertain us greatly.
So, as I end my note this evening, I toast to my sister with our “Delavan Beer” (Spotted Cow and Two Women, from the New Glarus Brewery), to our pups, our breeding program, and to happy Frenchie Life.
